Handling a Lost Passport Can Be Done at the Nearest Immigration Office

JAKARTA – The Directorate General of Immigration has announced that individuals who have lost their passports can now handle the necessary procedures at the nearest immigration office, rather than being required to visit the office that originally issued the passport. Applicants are required to bring a police-issued loss report and their electronic ID card (e-KTP).

Achmad Nur Saleh, Sub-coordinator of Public Relations at the Directorate General of Immigration, emphasized the importance of promptly reporting the loss to the nearest police station. "After completing the investigation process, applicants are obligated to pay a fine of Rp 1,000,000. Only then can they apply for a replacement passport due to loss," Achmad stated on Tuesday, January 16, 2024.

For Indonesian citizens who lose their passports while abroad, the procedure is similar. After obtaining a loss report from the local police, applicants should visit the nearest Indonesian Embassy, Consulate General, or Indonesian Economic and Trade Office. There, they can apply for a Travel Document in Lieu of a Passport (SPLP), which serves as a one-time travel document to return to Indonesia.

The Directorate General of Immigration advises the public to safeguard their passports diligently, as they are official state documents containing personal identification. It is also recommended to keep copies of the passport, whether in photo, photocopy, or scanned form, to facilitate the process in case of loss.

To apply for a new passport, applicants must prepare the following documents:

- Electronic ID card (e-KTP)

- Family card

- Birth certificate

- Academic diploma or marriage certificate

The fees for passport applications are Rp 350,000 for a regular (non-electronic) passport and Rp 650,000 for an electronic passport.
