Indonesian Government Implements Visa-Free Policy for Brazilian and Turkish Citizens

JAKARTA - The Indonesian government has implemented a Visa-Free Visit (BVK) policy for foreign nationals holding Brazilian and Turkish passports. This policy, effective starting July 3, 2025, was established through Regulation of the Minister of Immigration and Corrections Number 9 of 2025. The Acting (Plt.) Director General of Immigration, Yuldi Yusman, stated that the granting of BVK is based on an evaluation coordinated with relevant ministries/agencies.

"Visa-Free Visits can be granted to certain countries based on continuous evaluation, which we also coordinate with relevant agencies. The main consideration for granting BVK to Brazil and Turkey is that both countries have already provided BVK for Indonesian citizens," Yuldi explained.

The establishment of Permenimipas No. 9/2025 is based on Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 95 of 2024. Article 2 Paragraph (3) of this Perpres states that the granting of BVK is carried out by observing the principles of reciprocity, benefit, state security, tourism, and economy and investment.

Yuldi added that the BVK is valid for a maximum of 30 (thirty) days and cannot be extended or converted to other types of stay permits. Foreigners holding a BVK can use their stay permit for tourism, business meetings, and medical treatment purposes.

"We implement BVK selectively. The Directorate General of Immigration supports economic development by ensuring that only qualified foreign nationals who can contribute come to Indonesia. We continue to strengthen foreign national surveillance and continuously evaluate the implementation of BVK to ensure it remains in accordance with applicable laws and regulations," Yuldi concluded.
