Temporary Stay Permit (ITAS) can be granted to:

  • Foreign Nationals holding a Temporary Stay Visa at the Immigration Checkpoint (TPI);
  • Newborns in Indonesia whose parents are holders of Temporary Stay Permits at the nearest Immigration Office by presenting the child's passport, a guarantee letter from the sponsor, other documents explaining the purpose  of the Foreign Nationals' stay in Indonesia, a birth certificate, parents' passports, and the parents’ Visitor Stay Permits;
  • ship captains, crew members, or foreign experts on ships, floating devices, or installations operating in the waters and jurisdictional areas of Indonesia in accordance with the provisions of the laws and regulations;
  • Foreign Nationals applying for a status change from a Visitor Stay Permit to a Permanent Stay Permit.

Extension of Temporary Stay Permit (ITAS) can be granted to:

  1. experts;
  2. workers;
  3. Foreign Nationals who join to work on ships, floating facilities, or installations operating in the archipelago waters, territorial seas, or continental shelves, as well as the Exclusive Economic Zone of Indonesia;
  4. clergyman/clergywoman;
  5. foreign investors;
  6. scientific research;
  7. education;
  8. family reunification;
  9. repatriation;
  10. second home;
  11. Foreign Nationals invited by the government due to their expertise (global talent);
  12. world figures;
  13. elderly individuals aged 60 years or older.
  • The Head of the Immigration Office grants an extension of ITAS for a maximum period of 1 year for students or scholars for educational purposes.
  • The Head of the Immigration Office grants ITAS extensions for a period of 2 years or more and extensions for Foreign Nationals from countries requiring a Calling Visa upon obtaining approval from the Director General.
  • Extension of ITAS for Maritime Areas and for Foreign Nationals from specific entities working as staff or officials in commercial offices located in the territory of Indonesia, including their families, is granted by the Director General or designated Immigration Officer.
  • In cases where ITAS requires a statement of commitment, the extension can be processed once the commitment has been fulfilled.

It can be extended up to 5 times for 180 days each extension, provided the total stay does not exceed 3 years.

 

Each extension can be extended for a maximum of 1 year, provided that the total ITAS duration does not exceed 3 years.

 

Each extension can extend for a maximum duration of 180 days, with the total granted ITAS not exceeding 3 years.


 

General requirement

  • A legal and valid National Passport
  • integration statement except for children under 18 years and unmarried
  • Foreigner's ITAS 
  • Sponsorship Letter from a Sponsor in the case of having a Sponsor
  • identity card and/or family card of the Sponsor or Person in Charge in the case of having a Sponsor or Person in Charge
  • husband, wife, father, mother, or child of the ITAS holder in the case of joining the ITAS holder of close family relations

Document requirements for ITAS extension are the same as the requirements for a Temporary Stay Visa (VITAS) application with several terms, including:

  • Does not require a minimum validity period for a legal and valid National Passport;
  • does not require proof of living expenses;
  • Extension of a Temporary Stay Permit whose application requires a statement of commitment must also attach proof of fulfilment of the responsibility in the form of:
  1. bank statements for the last 3 (three) months;
  2. changes to the company deed;
  3. latest property tax;
  4. latest financial report;
  5. latest corporate taxes;
  6. latest income state;
  7. latest bond letter;
  8. latest share ownership or
  9. Other evidence supports the intention or purpose of staying in Indonesia, which explains ownership in the foreigner's name and confirms the intention of staying in Indonesia.

Extensions of Temporary Stay Permits that do not require the approval of the Director General are carried out through:

  1. Acceptance of application submission
  2. Taking a photograph
  3. Verification of immigration fee payment under the provisions of laws and regulations
  4. Approval from the Head of the Immigration Office or the designated Immigration Officer
  5. Issuance

Extension of a Temporary Stay Permit with the approval of the Director General is carried out through:

  1. Acceptance of application submission
  2. Taking a photograph
  3. Verification of immigration fee payment under the provisions of laws and regulations
  4. The Head of the Immigration Office or appointed Immigration Officer forwards the application to the Director General within a maximum period of 3 (three) working days after the immigration fee is received.
  5. The Director General or appointed Immigration Officer determines to extend the Limited Stay Permit through:
  • Approval or rejection of the Director General or appointed Immigration Official; and
  • Submission of approval and issuance of a virtual Temporary Stay Permit or rejection to the Foreigner, Sponsor or Person in Charge with a copy to the head of the Immigration Office and the head of the Regional Office.

  • Without the approval of the Director General: no later than 3 (three) working days after the immigration fee is received.
  • With the approval of the Director General: no later than 5 (five) working days from the date the Director General receives the application.
  • The virtual Temporary Stay Permit (if approved) or Letter of Refusal (if rejected) is sent electronically to the Foreigner/Sponsor/ Person in Charge.

The application for the extension of ITAS can be submitted with the following provisions:

  • For a Temporary Stay Permit with a maximum duration of 1 year, it can be submitted at the earliest 30 days and at the latest on the day the ITAS expires; or
  • A Temporary Stay Permit for more than one year can be submitted within three months of its expiration, at the latest on the day the Permit expires.
  • Extension applications for ITAS that have been submitted and the immigration fees paid before the ITAS expires are not considered overstaying if the application process exceeds the ITAS duration.
  • ITAS extensions are granted 1 day after the ITAS expiration date.
  • The Head of the Immigration Office grants ITAS extensions for a maximum duration of 1 year for students in the context of education.
  • ITAS extensions for 2 years or more and extensions for Foreign Nationals from a Calling Visa country are granted by the Head of the Immigration Office after obtaining approval from the Director General.
  • Extension of ITAS for Maritime Areas and for Foreign Nationals from specific entities working as staff or officials in commercial offices located in the Indonesian territory, including their families, is granted by the Director General or designated Immigration Officer.
  • If ITAS requires a statement of commitment, an extension can be granted after the commitment is fulfilled.
