Immigration arrests Philippine fugitive, hunts for two others

JAKARTA - The Directorate General of Immigration handed over SG (Pr, 40 years old) and KO (Pr, 24 years old) to the Philippine Immigration Bureau (BOI) on Thursday (22/08) to be escorted back to the Philippines. SG and KO, along with AG (Pr, 38 years old), WG (Lk, 34 years old), who are still fugitives, are four people on the Philippine government's Wanted List because they are suspected of being involved in immigration violations and are the main suspects in a transnational crime case.

Based on a public report on (19/08) regarding alleged immigration crimes, the Intelligence and Immigration Enforcement Team of the Batam Immigration Office immediately took action. The team conducted strict surveillance in the Batam Center area and succeeded in identifying two suspected foreign nationals.

After further checking in coordination with the Directorate of Immigration Supervision and Enforcement, it was discovered that the two foreign nationals were Filipino citizens who were on the wanted list in accordance with the search request letter from the Philippine BOI to the Directorate General of Immigration issued on 19 August 2024.

"We found them [the Filipino fugitives] in Batam Center, based on the results of the examination and tracing through the Foreigner Reporting Application, Officers found that there was a person named ZJ (Singaporean citizen) who had booked four rooms at the Harris Hotel Batam Center for the last 3 days. From the results of the CCTV check, it was found that ZJ was the party who helped them to reserve the hotel," explained the Director of Immigration Supervision and Enforcement, Safar M. Godam

After the arrest, SG and KO were secured at the Batam Immigration Office and then picked up by the Investigation Team from the Wasdakim Directorate on Wednesday (21/08) to then be handed over and escorted by Immigration Officers from the Philippine BOI on Thursday, 22 August 2024.

"The arrest of [SG and KO] is a concrete step to secure the ASEAN region from transnational crime, which was the result of the meeting of the Director General of Immigration throughout ASEAN at the DGICM forum last week. Today, we handed them [SG and KO] over to the BOI for repatriation to the Philippines. The other two fugitives [AG and WG] are still being pursued. The Indonesian and Philippine authorities continue to coordinate to arrest the two fugitives immediately," concluded Godam.
