1,293 Foreigners Checked in Jagratara Operation, 185 Cases Continue Processed Legally

JAKARTA - The Directorate General of Immigration (DGI) recently conducted a national-scale overseeing operation for foreigners, called Jagratara Phase 2, on August 22-23, 2024. This operation aimed to ensure that foreigners comply with immigration regulations in Indonesia.

Over the two-day operation, immigration officers examined a total of 1,293 foreigners at 507 surveillance points across the country. The primary focus was on identifying activities that could potentially violate immigration laws, such as misuse of stay permits, unpermitted work, and engaging in activities that are inconsistent with the purpose of their visit.

"This Jagratara Operation reflects our commitment to maintaining national security and order," stated Safar M. Godam, the Director of Immigration Supervision and Enforcement. "We will continue to enhance our efforts in supervising and enforcing immigration regulations."

The examination results revealed that 185 cases required further follow-up. Among these, there were 48 Nigerian citizens, 37 Chinese citizens, 15 citizens from Pakistan and India, and the remainder represented various other countries.

The most common violations included misuse of stay permits and overstaying. Additionally, several cases involved foreigners engaging in activities not permitted by their stay permits.

"We will take strict action against any violations identified," Godam emphasized. "Our objective is to deter violators and foster a conducive environment for foreigners who adhere to the rules."

The ongoing Jagratara Operation is designed to enhance the effectiveness of immigration supervision and prevent any harmful violations within the country.

Furthermore, this operation aims to serve as a signal for foreigners wishing to visit or reside in Indonesia, encouraging them to comply with the existing regulations.
