Director General of Immigration Launches Electronic Passport Issuance at the Indonesian Consulate General in Frankfurt

FRANKFURT - Silmy Karim, the Director General of Immigration, inaugurated issuing Electronic Passports at the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Frankfurt, Germany. The first electronic passports were presented to Antonius Yudi Triantoro, the Indonesian Consul General in Frankfurt, and Gwenda Praya Kinanti, an Indonesian citizen residing in the consulate's jurisdiction, on Friday, September 20, 2024.

Consul General Antonius Yudi noted that the number of Indonesian citizens in the Frankfurt consulate's area of responsibility has been increasing yearly, with the majority being students and healthcare workers.

Frankfurt marks the tenth Indonesian representative office to offer E-Passport services. Previously, these services were introduced at Indonesian diplomatic missions in Singapore, Tokyo (Japan), Seoul (South Korea), The Hague (Netherlands), Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), Los Angeles (United States), Berlin (Germany), Sydney (Australia), and Beijing (China).

Antonius also mentioned the valuable support from the Berlin Immigration Attaché in providing outreach services (eazy passport) across several cities within the consulate's jurisdiction. This initiative benefits Indonesian citizens who need to renew their passports. The consulate's jurisdiction covers six regions: Hessen, Baden-Württemberg, Bayern, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Rheinland-Pfalz, and Saarland, encompassing over half of Germany's total area.

In response to the growing demand for public services amid a significant increase in the number of Indonesian citizens in the area—particularly over the last two years—the Indonesian Consulate General in Frankfurt has prioritized efficient electronic passport services to meet these needs.

"With more than 17,000 Indonesian citizens in our working area, the importance of efficient immigration services is apparent. The introduction of electronic passport applications at the Indonesian Consulate General in Frankfurt facilitates a faster and more practical process for those working or studying in Germany," stated Director General Silmy Karim.

During his visit, the Director General also reviewed immigration services in Düsseldorf and engaged directly with representatives from community groups to gather their feedback and opinions regarding immigration, citizenship, and related public services.
