JAKARTA - The Directorate General of Immigration (DGI) opened registration for Work and Holiday Visa Support Letters (SDUWHV) on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at 09:00 WIB. Applications for SDUWHV can be made online via sduwhv.imigrasi.go.id. This year, the DGI has allocated 4,796 quotas, a figure determined by the Australian Department of Home Affairs (DHA) under a cooperation agreement between Indonesia and Australia.
The SDUWHV serves as a letter of support from the Indonesian government, issued by the DGI, and is a crucial requirement for applying for an Australian Work and Holiday Visa. This visa allows young Indonesians aged 18 to 30 to travel to Australia.
Chicco Muttaqin, Director of Immigration Information Systems and Technology, noted that the website has been redesigned for better usability. Users can track the number of applicants online and see how many have successfully obtained an SDUWHV.
"We created the new SDUWHV website with mechanisms and technology similar to ticketing websites to meet applicants' needs. We also added features such as live cam and selfie verification to ensure applicants are genuine and not bots, preventing the use of 'jockeys.' Fortunately, everything has gone well, and the website will remain open until the quotas are filled," Chicco stated on Friday, October 11, 2024.
Within just a few hours, all SDUWHV quotas were filled. By 18:25 WIB on October 10, the total number of applicants had reached 11,910, while the full 4,796 SDUWHVs had been issued.
One applicant, Cassandra, shared her positive experience regarding the 2024 SDUWHV registration process on Instagram. "Great job, @ditjen_imigrasi! The system this year is imposing! Honestly, it was tough being at an internet café and just praying and refreshing, but I got the SDU in just 3 hours. Praise the Lord, I can't believe I got it!" she wrote.
Additionally, Chicco assured that the SDUWHV process was conducted without any irregularities. He emphasized that the entire procedure had been carefully prepared.
"We are committed to ensuring that the Work and Holiday Visa Support Letters issuance runs transparently and is monitored by the Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia. During the SDUWHV registration period, we monitored the back-end dashboard that displays applicant data in real time. We have also invited representatives from the Inspectorate General of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights to observe the implementation of the 2024 SDUWHV process directly," he added.
Supporting the Director General of Immigration's statement, Nugroho Eko Martono, Assistant to the Indonesian Ombudsman, said, "The Directorate General of Immigration invited us to observe the SDUWHV process live. It was conducted transparently, and the number of applications received was extraordinary, with high public enthusiasm—around 5,000 applications were received within just two minutes. The DGI team responded very well," he explained.
