Immigration and Police Hand Over Interpol Fugitive to Philippine Authorities After Capture at Bali Airport
Jakarta – The Directorate General of Immigration (DGI) of the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections, in collaboration with the International Relations Division of the Indonesian National Police (Divhubinter Polri), successfully apprehended a Filipino national, identified by the initials HAP, who is listed on Interpol's Red Notice wanted list.
On 31 October 2024, the Directorate of Immigration Supervision and Enforcement received information from the Philippine National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) regarding HAP, who was travelling to Indonesia. The investigation revealed that HAP had entered Indonesia through the Immigration Border Control at Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport on 10 October 2024 via Scoot airline flight number TR0286, according to Acting Director General of Immigration, Saffar Muhammad Godam.
On Saturday, 9 November 2024, at 09:15 WIB, the DGI team was notified by Ngurah Rai Airport Immigration Border Control that HAP was attempting to depart from the terminal.
"HAP was scheduled to fly to Hong Kong on Hong Kong Airlines flight number HX706. However, our Exit/Entry Prevention system detected that he was on the wanted list, prompting Immigration officers to delay his departure," Godam explained.
Later that day, at 15:20 WIB, the Immigration Supervision and Enforcement Team proceeded to I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali, to detain and escort HAP. HAP left for Jakarta at 19:20 WITA, where officers from the Soekarno-Hatta Immigration Office then accompanied him for inspection and further investigation at the DGI Headquarters.
On 13 November 2024, HAP was officially handed over to the International Relations Division of the Indonesian National Police by the Director of Immigration Supervision and Enforcement, Barron Ichsan. This handover reflects a strong partnership between Indonesian law enforcement and international agencies.
Following HAP's handover, a coordination meeting was held on 14 November 2024 to discuss strategic actions for resolving other fugitive cases. This meeting included vital participants such as the Philippine Police Attaché in Indonesia, the Philippine National Police, and the Bureau of Immigration of the Philippines.
The DGI reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing cooperation with Interpol. "Our collaboration with the Philippine Government, particularly through Interpol, demonstrates our commitment to maintaining security in the Indonesian region against transnational crime. We play an active role in apprehending transnational criminals and contributing to regional security," concluded Barron.
