Immigration Apprehends 17 Vietnamese from a Cosmetic Surgery Clinic for Misuse of Stay Permit
JAKARTA - The Directorate General of Immigration (DGI) has arrested 17 Vietnamese citizens suspected of abusing their immigration stay permit at a cosmetic surgery clinic in the Pluit Timur area, North Jakarta on Sunday (05/01). The clinic is known to have been operating since 2018.
"It starts from an information we got from the public about some foreigners working at the clinic, our officers then conducted covert surveillance by posing as customers," explained the Director of Immigration Operations and Enforcement, Yuldi Yusman during a Press Conference at the DGI Office on Thursday (10/01).
Acting Director General of Immigration, Saffar M. Godam explained, "After we did investigation at the clinic, we found that the foreigners working there were not only doctors and other medical personnel but also marketing and reception staff, a total of 17 people [foreign nationals],"
The 17 people consisted of 10 women and 7 men. 15 of them used Visa On Arrival and 2 others used Temporary Stay Permits (ITAS) for Investors. They are currently in the DGI Office to undergo further examination. They are charged with Article 122 of Law Number 6 of 2011 for misuse of stay permits with a maximum imprisonment of 5 (five) years and a maximum fine of IDR 500,000,000.00 (five hundred million rupiah).
In accordance with the instruction of the Minister of Immigration and Correctional Affairs, Agus Andrianto, DGI will always fully support the law enforcement process and actively work hand in hand with all relevant stakeholders to implement law enforcement and Joint Investigation.
"We are currently developing this case to reveal whether there are other parties involved, such as the distributor or recipient of the foreign nationals. Zero tolerance for lawbreakers in Indonesia," Godam ended.
