Gold Coast International Port in Batam Inaugurated, Expected to Spur National Economy
BATAM - The Gold Coast Bengkong International Port, located in the Golden City Bengkong area, Batam City, Riau Islands, was officially put into operation on Monday (April 14th). The inauguration of this new port is expected to be a significant stimulus for the Indonesian economy through smoother international crossing flows.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Acting Director General of Immigration, Saffar Muhammad Godam; the National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo; the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono; the Vice Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Johanes Tanik; as well as various officials from other vertical agencies.
Golden City Bengkong is a dynamic area in Batam, offering a combination of residential, business, culinary, and good accessibility, making it an attractive place to live, do business, and for tourists to visit.
The Gold Coast Bengkong International Port currently serves the international route Batam - Stulang Laut (Johor Bahru, Malaysia) with a frequency of twice daily trips. In the near future, the government will open the Gold Coast (Batam) - Singapore shipping route. The addition of this Immigration Checkpoint (TPI) will also accommodate the increasing flow of people to and from Indonesia via Batam. In March 2025, a total of 252 foreign nationals crossed through this port, an increase of 92% compared to February (131 people) when the Gold Coast Port first began operating.
Gold Coast Bengkong becomes the 9th immigration checkpoint under the working area of the Class I Special TPI Batam Immigration Office, complementing the eight existing TPIs, including the Hang Nadim International Airport TPI and various other sea TPIs in Batam.
On this occasion, the Acting Director General of Immigration, along with relevant officials, conducted a direct inspection of the Gold Coast TPI facilities. The inspection included the readiness of inspection counters, the availability of employee resources, and other supporting facilities to ensure the smooth running of immigration processes.
Currently, there are 8 arrival counters and 8 departure counters with a total of 15 officers.
The Acting Director General of Immigration, Saffar Muhammad Godam, expressed his optimism regarding the role of this new port. "With the addition of a state gateway at the Gold Coast Bengkong International Seaport, it is hoped that the flow of people to and from Indonesia will become smoother and have an impact on economic improvement," he said.
The inauguration of the Gold Coast Bengkong International Port is a breath of fresh air for efforts to improve connectivity and economic growth in the Batam region and Indonesia as a whole. It is hoped that with the operation of this port, trade, tourism, and investment activities will further increase, thereby making a positive contribution to the nation's progress.
