Saudi and Indonesian Immigration's Makkah Route Program Serves Nearly 100,000 Hajj Pilgrims in 2025
The Saudi Arabian Royal Immigration and the Directorate General of Immigration have facilitated immigration processes for 97,221 Indonesian Hajj pilgrims in 2025 through the Makkah Route program, a strategic collaboration between Indonesian and Saudi Arabian immigration authorities. Through this program, Hajj pilgrims no longer need to undergo passport and visa checks upon arrival in Saudi Arabia, as these procedures are completed before their departure from Indonesia.
The Makkah Route is an advance immigration checkpoint service where inspections are carried out by Saudi Arabian immigration officers directly at departure airports in Indonesia. "With the Makkah Route, Indonesian Hajj pilgrims can immediately focus on their worship as soon as they set foot in the Holy Land," said Acting Director General of Immigration, Yuldi Yusman.
Currently, the Makkah Route operates at three main embarkation points. At Soekarno-Hatta Airport, serving the Jakarta-Bekasi Embarkation, 61 groups (kloter) comprising 26,606 pilgrims are served through 13 immigration counters. Meanwhile, Juanda Airport Surabaya serves 97 groups with a total of 36,809 pilgrims through 7 inspection counters. At Adi Soemarmo Airport Surakarta, 94 groups with 33,806 pilgrims are also served through 7 inspection counters. The total number of Indonesian Hajj pilgrims for 2025 is 221,000. Thus, approximately 44% of Hajj pilgrims have been served by the Makkah Route.
Yuldi hopes that in the future, the Directorate General of Immigration, along with Saudi Arabian Immigration, can expand the Makkah Route to cover all Hajj embarkation points. "Alhamdulillah, the Makkah Route has run smoothly, and many people have welcomed this program, especially elderly and disabled pilgrims. The immigration process from departure to return has been seamless and comfortable," he stated.
Minister of Immigration and Correctional Affairs, Agus Andrianto, conveyed that the Directorate General of Immigration is discussing making the Makkah Route a reciprocal program to optimize services for Hajj pilgrims.
"Currently, the Makkah Route is only operated for departures from Indonesia to Saudi Arabia. We are discussing making this program reciprocal so that Indonesian Immigration officers can serve Hajj pilgrims' immigration checks at airports in Saudi Arabia before they return to Indonesia. We continue to strive to promote immigration services that are adaptive to the needs of the community," Agus concluded.
