Nine Foreign Nationals Involved in Love Scamming in North Jakarta and Bali Apprehended and Deported by Immigration
JAKARTA – The Directorate General of Immigration has deported and blacklisted nine foreign nationals (WNA) suspected of involvement in online fraud (scamming). Previously, six of them, consisting of four Chinese nationals, one Ghanaian national, and one Nigerian national, were arrested in a surveillance operation conducted in the North Jakarta area on June 11, 2025. Meanwhile, two other individuals, both Chinese nationals, were arrested in an area in Bali on June 19, 2025, based on the development of an investigation of one Chinese national conducted at the Directorate General of Immigration on June 16, 2025.
"Based on examination and evidence, the nine foreign nationals were charged under Article 122 letter a of the Immigration Law for violating their stay permits by committing online fraud with a love scamming modus operandi that led to the extortion of victims," explained Yuldi Yusman, Acting Director General of Immigration.
From the operation in North Jakarta, officers found evidence in the form of 40 smartphones and two iPads. Meanwhile, in Bali, officers confiscated 76 smartphones, seven iPads, and three laptops. These devices were allegedly used to carry out the fraud.
Further investigation also revealed the existence of "Love Scamming Jakarta" and "Love Scamming Bali" chat groups.
"We found that there are still 3 other Chinese nationals in the Love Scamming Jakarta group and 7 Chinese nationals in the Love Scamming Bali group whom we have added to the Directorate General of Immigration's blacklist," Yuldi elaborated.
Yuldi added that the seven Chinese nationals targeted victims from China as well, while the Ghanaian and Nigerian nationals targeted other foreign citizens.
"We emphasize that the Directorate General of Immigration will continue to enhance supervision, act firmly, and not tolerate any form of immigration violations. We also invite all members of the public to actively report the presence of suspicious foreign nationals to the nearest immigration office," Yuldi concluded.
